At ShareWELL, we want to ensure that all members clearly understand how pre-existing conditions may impact their ability to have medical bills shared with the community. It's important to know that pre-existing condition limitations do not affect preventive visits and costs below your selected Unshared Amount (UA).
Here are some questions to help you determine if your pre-existing conditions might affect your coverage:
- Do I have a condition that meets ShareWELL’s definition of a pre-existing condition?
- Will this condition lead to expenses that exceed my UA?
- Will those potential expenses be more than what I will save with ShareWELL?
For example, if you have an injury before joining that may require surgery within the next 12 months, be aware that such bills will not be eligible for sharing within the community in your first year.
Definition:
A pre-existing condition, for the purposes of ShareWELL, is any illness, injury, or medical condition for which a member has received medical advice, diagnosis, care, or treatment within 24 months prior to joining ShareWELL. For cancer, this period is 36 months before joining.
Key Points:
- Diagnosis and Treatment: A condition is considered pre-existing if the member has been diagnosed with, treated for, or received medical advice about it before their start date with ShareWELL.
- Disclosure: Members are encouraged to fully disclose any pre-existing conditions.
- Sharing: The extent of sharing for pre-existing conditions may vary. ShareWELL may offer partial, full, or no coverage for certain pre-existing conditions based on specific membership plans and terms.
- Waiting Period: Pre-existing conditions require a waiting period before they become eligible to share with the ShareWELL community. This period will be specified in the membership agreement.
By clearly defining pre-existing conditions, ShareWELL aims to maintain transparency and fairness in providing healthcare options to all members. If you have questions, we are always happy to help you understand any specific condition you have questions about.
